Insert Blank Pages Into a PDF Online

Insert Blank Pages Into a PDF lets you add empty pages to a document you already have. Put them at the beginning, at the end, or right after any page in the middle. Open the file, place the pages, and download the result — there is nothing to install.

You see every page as a thumbnail first, so a new blank page shows up in the grid as a dashed card before you save anything. That makes it easy to add a blank page to a PDF exactly where you meant to, whether you are leaving room for notes, a signature or a cover sheet.

The tool is built for anyone who needs a quick fix without a full PDF editor, from a student with lecture slides to an office team preparing a contract. Your original file is never changed; you always get a new PDF back.

How to Insert Blank Pages Into a PDF

1

Upload your PDF. Drag it onto the box or choose it from your device. Files can be up to 50 MB.

2

Choose where the blank pages go. Use Start of Document, End of Document, or select a page and press Insert After.

3

Set how many. Type a number from 1 to 100 in the How many box before you press the button.

4

Pick the page size. Match the page next to it, A4, or Letter, in Output Options.

5

Click Insert Blank Pages & Download. Check the summary in the bottom bar first if you like.

6

Download the updated PDF. Preview it, rename it, or send it to a cloud drive.

Insert Position Options

Choose exactly where new pages appear. You can use one position or several in the same job.

Insert Blank Pages at the Start of a PDF

Start of Document places blank pages before the first page. It is the quickest way to add a blank page at the beginning of a PDF.

  • Cover sheets that are printed or stamped separately
  • Title pages and introductory pages added later
  • A blank front page when filing or scanning a batch of documents

Insert Blank Pages at the End of a PDF

End of Document places blank pages after the last page, so the original content stays where it is.

  • Extra room for notes or an appendix
  • Additional forms to be filled in by hand
  • A signature page at the back of an agreement

Insert Blank Pages After a Specific Page

Select a page and press Insert After to add blank pages immediately behind it. Select several pages and one press adds a blank page beside each of them. Insert Before works the same way in front of a page.

  • Notes between sections of a report
  • Forms slotted into the middle of a packet
  • Signature pages after a specific clause or chapter
  • Separators between chapters, and space for extra material

How Many Blank Pages Can You Add?

You can add one blank page or several. The How many box takes anything from 1 to 100, and that many pages are added every time you press an insert button.

Press more than once and you can build up different amounts in different places, for example two blanks at the start and five after page 10. The bottom bar keeps a running total so you always know how long the finished file will be.

Choose the Right PDF Page Size

New pages can copy the size of the pages around them, or use a standard paper size. You choose in Output Options.

OptionSizeBest for
Match Neighboring PageSame as the page next to itMost documents, especially ones with mixed page sizes.
A4210 × 297 mmDocuments printed on A4 paper, common outside North America.
Letter8.5 × 11 inDocuments printed on US Letter paper.

Match Neighboring Page

This is usually the best choice. A blank page that is the same size as the pages around it looks consistent on screen and prints without scaling surprises. A blank at the very start takes its size from the first real page.

A4

Choose A4 when the whole document is destined for A4 paper, or when the source pages are an unusual size and you want the new pages to be a standard sheet.

Letter

Choose Letter when you are preparing paperwork for US Letter printers, such as forms, contracts and handouts sent to North American offices.

More Ways to Add Blank Pages

Beyond the basic positions, these options save time on longer documents.

Every N pages

  • Type every to add a blank after each page
  • Type every 2 for every second page, and so on

Specific pages

  • Type a list such as 2, 5, 7-9 in the Insert after pages box
  • Use 0 for the very start

Pad to Even

  • Adds one blank at the end of files with an odd page count
  • Handy before double-sided printing

Mark blank pages

  • Optionally prints “This page intentionally left blank”
  • Off by default, so pages stay empty

Batch, split and ZIP

  • Open up to 20 PDFs at once
  • Save one PDF per page, or a ZIP of everything

Undo and preview

  • Undo, Reset, and Remove Blank while you work
  • See the file plan before you download

Why Add Blank Pages to a PDF?

People add a blank page to a PDF for practical reasons more often than you might expect.

  • Handwritten notes. Leave a page beside slides, lecture notes or a reading list.
  • Signatures and stamps. Reserve a clean page for a signature, seal or approval stamp added later.
  • Cover sheets. Add a front page for a title, a label or a routing slip.
  • Section dividers. Separate chapters or parts so they are easy to find when printed.
  • Printing and binding. Adjust page counts so double-sided or bound copies come out right.
  • Document organization. Keep scanned packets in a predictable order.
  • Manuscript formatting. Make chapters start on the right-hand page or fit a print-on-demand requirement.
  • Forms and paperwork. Insert extra pages for attachments, exhibits or fill-in sheets.

  • Keep a copy of the original file, just in case you want to start again.

Common Problems and Troubleshooting

My PDF is larger than the allowed file size

The limit is 50 MB per file. Try our Compress PDF tool first, or split the document with Split PDF and add blank pages to each part.

I selected the wrong page

Press Undo, or select the dashed blank card and press Remove Blank, then select the page you meant. Nothing is saved until you press the download button.

The blank pages appear in the wrong location

Check the thumbnail numbers: a blank inserted after page 4 sits between pages 4 and 5. If you typed page numbers instead, remember that every 2 means after each second page.

The page dimensions do not match

A4 and Letter use fixed sizes whatever the surrounding pages are. Switch back to Match Neighboring Page in Output Options and save again.

I need to download the output PDF again

Your download stays available for a short time on the results screen. Once the countdown ends the file is deleted, so repeat the job to get a new copy.

I should keep the original PDF as a backup

Yes. We never change the file you upload, but keeping your own copy means you can always begin again from the same starting point.

Insert Blank Pages Into a PDF on Mobile

The tool works in the browser on your phone or tablet, so there is no app to download and no desktop software to install.

  • Android phones: open the page in Chrome or another browser, tap Choose PDF, and pick your file.
  • iPhone and iPad: use Safari or another browser, then choose the PDF from Files or a cloud drive.
  • Tablets: the larger screen shows more thumbnails at once, which makes choosing a page easier.

On a small screen, tap a page to select it, then tap Insert After. Download the finished PDF to your device when you are done.

Insert Blank Pages Into a PDF Without Adobe Acrobat

Desktop PDF editors, Adobe Acrobat among them, can insert pages on your computer. A browser-based tool covers the same simple job when you do not have one installed, are on a shared or work computer, or only need a quick edit.

Open the page, add your blank pages, and download the file. There is no licence to find and no setup to complete.

Insert Blank Pages Into a PDF for Printing

Blank pages often solve a printing problem rather than a content one.

  • Double-sided printing: a blank page keeps the back of a sheet clear, or pads the file to an even number of pages. The Pad to Even button does the second job for you.
  • Booklet preparation: booklets need a page count that fits the fold, and extra blanks help you reach it.
  • Binding: spare blank pages at the start or end give a bound copy some breathing room.
  • Handwritten notes: print the file and write on the empty pages.
  • Section separation: a blank page between parts makes printed sections easy to find.

Check the finished file in Preview before you send it to a printer.

How Your File Is Handled

Page thumbnails are drawn on your own device so you can arrange the job. When you press the button, your PDF is uploaded over a secure connection and the new file is built on our servers. It is then made available for download and deleted automatically after a short period.

Read our full Privacy Policy or contact us if you have questions about how files are handled.
