    What Is This Tool?

Merge PDF combines two or more PDF files into a single document, in whatever order you choose. It's built for everyday tasks like assembling a report from separate chapters, combining scanned pages into one file, or putting together an application packet — without installing any software.

Everything runs on our servers over a secure connection; your files are processed, made available for download, and then automatically deleted a short time later.

    Why Merge Multiple PDF Files?

Separate PDFs are easy to lose track of and awkward to share. Merging them into one document means a single file to send, print, or archive — no more attaching five files to an email or hoping the recipient opens them in the right order.

    Benefits of Combining PDFs

    • One file instead of many
    • Consistent page order every time
    • Easier to email, print, or archive
    • No desktop software needed

Who Can Use a PDF Merger?

    • Students combining chapters or assignments
    • Teachers assembling handouts
    • Businesses compiling reports or invoices
    • Job seekers building an application packet
    • Researchers merging papers or datasets
    • Freelancers assembling client deliverables

    A Few Real-World Examples

    • A student combines 5 chapter PDFs into a single 120-page thesis file to submit to their professor.
    • A freelancer merges an invoice, contract, and cover letter into one PDF before emailing a new client.
    • A job seeker combines their resume, cover letter, and portfolio samples into a single application packet.
    • An office assistant merges a week's worth of scanned receipts into one file for expense reporting.
    • A researcher combines several journal articles into one PDF to read and annotate offline.

    Tips for Merging PDFs

    • Rename files beforehand so the sort order matches what you expect
    • Use the Size sort to spot unusually large files before merging
    • Compress the merged PDF from the results page if the file comes out large
    • Double-check page order in the file list before clicking Merge

    Troubleshooting

Problem: The "Merge PDFs" button stays disabled

Solution: You need at least two PDF files added before the button activates — add another file, or check that your last upload didn't silently fail.

    Problem: My file won't upload

Solution: Make sure the file is a genuine PDF (not just renamed from another format) and under the size limit shown above. If it's password-protected, unlock it first with our Unlock PDF tool, then try again — or try a different browser if the upload keeps failing.

Problem: The pages came out in the wrong order

Solution: Files are merged in the exact order shown in the file list — drag items to reorder them, or use the Name/Size sort buttons, before clicking Merge.

Problem: The merge failed or the download link doesn't work

Solution: Merged files are only kept for a limited time — if you waited too long before downloading, simply upload your files again and re-run the merge.

    Merge PDF FAQ

    Can I merge multiple PDFs?

Yes. You can merge multiple PDF files at once, up to the maximum number of files shown in the upload area, and they'll all be combined into one document.

Can I merge PDFs with different page sizes?

Yes. Each page keeps its original size and orientation, so an A4 landscape page stays landscape next to a Letter or Legal portrait page — nothing is stretched or cropped.

Can I choose specific pages before merging?

Yes. Open "Edit pages" to keep, delete, reorder or rotate individual pages, or type a page range such as 1-3, 5 for any file. Only the pages you keep end up in the merged PDF.

Can I reorder pages between PDFs?

Yes. In "Edit pages" you can drag a page out of one PDF and drop it anywhere in another. The merged file follows the exact page order shown in the organizer.

    Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

Not directly. Remove the password first with our Unlock PDF tool, then merge the unlocked file. Encrypted PDFs are detected on upload so you're never left with a silent failure.

    Is Merge PDF free?

Yes. Merge PDF is completely free, with no sign-up, watermark, or hidden limits beyond the file count and size shown above.

Is there a daily limit on how many PDFs I can merge?

No. Merge PDF has no daily limit — combine as many sets of files as you need, as often as you need, completely free.

Can I merge large PDF files?

Yes, as long as each file is within the maximum size shown above. Larger files simply take a little longer to process.

Can I rearrange PDFs before merging?

Yes — drag files into the order you want, or use the Name/Size sort buttons before merging. Files are combined in the exact order shown in the list.

    Are uploaded files secure?

Yes. Files are transferred over an encrypted connection, processed in an isolated job folder, and automatically deleted from our servers a short time after processing.

Can I use it on mobile?

Yes, Merge PDF works in any modern mobile or desktop browser — no app required.

Does the merged PDF lose quality?

No, not with the default Original quality — pages are copied as-is, with no re-encoding of text or images. Quality only changes if you pick the Balanced or Smaller file option, which re-compresses images to shrink the result.

    Is registration required?

No. You can merge PDFs without creating an account or providing any personal details.

    Privacy & Security

    Your files are handled securely

All uploads are transferred over an encrypted SSL/TLS connection and processed in an isolated job folder. No one at PDFCherry views, shares, or uses the content of your documents for anything other than completing the merge you requested.

    • Uploaded files are automatically deleted within 30 minutes.
    • Merged results are automatically deleted within 1 hour after completion.
    • Your original files are never modified — merging always produces a new, separate output file; the PDFs you uploaded are read, not altered.

Read our full Privacy Policy or Contact Us if you have any questions about how your files are handled.

    Why Trust PDFCherry?

PDFCherry is built and maintained by a small, dedicated team and runs on established, industry-standard PDF libraries — not an anonymous "free tool" that resells your files or data. The privacy practices above apply across the whole site. More about PDFCherry.
