What Is This Tool?

Rotate PDF fixes pages that were scanned or saved sideways or upside down. Rotate every page in a document by 90°, 180°, or 270°, or target only specific pages that need correcting — the rest of the document is left untouched.

Everything runs on our servers over a secure connection; your files are processed, made available for download, and then automatically deleted a short time later.

Why Rotate a PDF File?

Scanners and phone cameras often save pages sideways or upside down, especially when scanning mixed-orientation documents. Rotating fixes the orientation permanently, so the document reads correctly on any device without the viewer having to tilt their screen.

Benefits of Rotating PDFs

  • Fixes sideways or upside-down scans
  • Rotate the whole document or just specific pages
  • Permanent fix — no need to rotate on every view
  • No desktop software needed

Who Can Use a PDF Rotator?

  • Anyone with a scanned document saved in the wrong orientation
  • Office staff processing scanned mail or forms
  • Students fixing photos of notes taken with a phone
  • Archivists correcting old scanned records

A Few Real-World Examples

  • An office worker can rotate a batch of scanned contracts that were saved upside down, making them readable for the entire team.
  • A student can fix photos of a whiteboard taken with a phone, where some images are sideways.
  • An archivist can correct old scanned records that were saved in mixed orientations.
  • A paralegal can straighten a stack of exhibits scanned at an angle before filing them with the court.
  • A small business owner can fix a supplier invoice that came in landscape when it should read portrait.

Step-by-Step Guide

1

Upload the PDF you want to rotate.

2

Choose a rotation angle and which pages.

3

Click "Rotate PDF".

4

Download your rotated PDF.

Choosing a Rotation Angle

90° Clockwise — use this when a page's top is currently facing the left side of your screen; rotating clockwise turns it upright. This is the most common fix for scanner mistakes.

180° — use this when a page is completely upside down. It flips the page so the top and bottom swap places.

90° Counter-clockwise — use this when a page's top is currently facing the right side of your screen; rotating counter-clockwise turns it upright.

"All Pages" vs. "Custom Pages"

All Pages applies the same rotation to every page in the document — ideal when the whole file was scanned sideways or upside down.

Custom Pages lets you rotate only specific pages, leaving the rest of the document untouched. Enter page numbers or ranges separated by commas, for example: 1,3,5-7. This is useful when only a few pages in an otherwise correctly-oriented document need fixing.

Visual Guide: What Each Rotation Does

AngleEffect
90° ClockwiseRotates the page to the right. The top of the page becomes the right side.
180°Turns the page completely upside down. The top of the page becomes the bottom.
90° Counter-ClockwiseRotates the page to the left. The top of the page becomes the left side.

Best Practices

  • Check the page orientation before uploading so you know which angle you need.
  • Use "Custom Pages" if only a few pages are misaligned — it saves you from re-checking pages that are already correct.
  • If you're unsure about the angle, try 90° Clockwise first, as it's the most common fix for scanner mistakes.
  • Download and open the result to confirm the orientation before deleting your original file.

Troubleshooting

Problem: I rotated the wrong direction

Solution: Simply upload the file again and choose a different angle — there's no limit on how many times you can process a file.

Problem: Only some pages need rotating, not the whole file

Solution: Use the "Custom Pages" option and enter the specific page numbers or ranges — the rest of the document is left exactly as it was.

Problem: My upload won't complete

Solution: Confirm the file is under 50 MB and is a valid PDF. Large scanned files can sometimes exceed the limit — try compressing the PDF first with our Compress PDF tool.

Rotate PDF FAQ

Is rotating PDFs really free?

Yes. Rotate PDF is completely free, with no sign-up, watermark, or hidden limits beyond the file size shown above.

Can I rotate just one or two pages?

Yes — choose "Custom Pages" and enter page numbers or ranges like 1,3,5-7. Only those pages are rotated; the rest of the document keeps its original orientation.

What's the difference between the rotation angles?

90° Clockwise and 90° Counter-clockwise turn pages a quarter turn in opposite directions; 180° flips a page upside down.

Will my file be kept after rotating?

No. Both your uploaded file and the rotated result are automatically deleted from our servers a short time after processing.

Does this work on mobile?

Yes, Rotate PDF works in any modern mobile or desktop browser — no app required.

Is registration required?

No. You can rotate PDFs without creating an account or providing any personal details.

What is the maximum file size?

You can upload PDF files up to 50 MB. If your scanned file is larger, try our Compress PDF tool first.
