Tips & tricks
- Only need one page fixed? Click just that page — you don’t have to touch the rest of the document.
- Mixed orientations in one scan are fine: select the sideways pages only and rotate them, leaving the rest exactly as they were.
- Made a mistake? Ctrl/Cmd+Z undoes the last rotation without losing your other changes.
- Preview before you download — it shows exactly what the finished PDF will look like, page by page.

What Is This Tool?
Rotate PDF fixes pages that were scanned or saved sideways or upside down. Rotate every page in a document by 90°, 180°, or 270°, or target only specific pages that need correcting — the rest of the document is left untouched.
Everything runs on our servers over a secure connection; your files are processed, made available for download, and then automatically deleted a short time later.
Why Rotate a PDF File?
Scanners and phone cameras often save pages sideways or upside down, especially when scanning mixed-orientation documents. Rotating fixes the orientation permanently, so the document reads correctly on any device without the viewer having to tilt their screen.
Benefits of Rotating PDFs
- Fixes sideways or upside-down scans
- Rotate the whole document or just specific pages
- Permanent fix — no need to rotate on every view
- No desktop software needed
Who Can Use a PDF Rotator?
- Anyone with a scanned document saved in the wrong orientation
- Office staff processing scanned mail or forms
- Students fixing photos of notes taken with a phone
- Archivists correcting old scanned records
A Few Real-World Examples
- An office worker can rotate a batch of scanned contracts that were saved upside down, making them readable for the entire team.
- A student can fix photos of a whiteboard taken with a phone, where some images are sideways.
- An archivist can correct old scanned records that were saved in mixed orientations.
- A paralegal can straighten a stack of exhibits scanned at an angle before filing them with the court.
- A small business owner can fix a supplier invoice that came in landscape when it should read portrait.
Step-by-Step Guide
Upload your PDF.
Select pages, rotate them and check the preview.
Click "Rotate Pages" to apply the rotation.
Download your corrected PDF.
Which Rotate Button Should I Use?
Rotate Right 90° — use this when a page's top is currently facing the left side of your screen; rotating clockwise turns it upright. This is the most common fix for scanner mistakes.
Rotate 180° — use this when a page is completely upside down. It flips the page so the top and bottom swap places.
Rotate Left 90° — use this when a page's top is currently facing the right side of your screen; rotating counter-clockwise turns it upright.
All Pages vs. Selected Pages
Apply to all pages selects every page, so one click rotates the whole document — ideal when the whole file was scanned sideways or upside down.
Selected pages rotate only the pages you tick or click, leaving the rest of the document untouched. You can also use the arrows on any single page. The thumbnails turn straight away, so you can check the result before you apply it.
How to Rotate Just One Page in a PDF
This is the job most people arrive with: every page is fine except one, and rotating the whole document would only break the pages that were already correct. The trick is simply what you select before you press a rotate button.
- Upload your PDF and wait for the page thumbnails to appear.
- Click the one page that is sideways or upside down, so it is the only page highlighted.
- Leave “Apply to all pages” unticked. That box is the one thing that will rotate the whole document.
- Press Rotate left, Rotate right or 180° and watch that single thumbnail turn.
- Click Rotate PDF & Download and save the corrected file.
Every other page keeps exactly the orientation it already had, and your original file is never modified. If you picked the wrong direction, press the opposite button twice or use Undo — nothing is written until you download.
Visual Guide: What Each Rotation Does
| Angle | Effect |
|---|---|
| 90° Clockwise | Rotates the page to the right. The top of the page becomes the right side. |
| 180° | Turns the page completely upside down. The top of the page becomes the bottom. |
| 90° Counter-Clockwise | Rotates the page to the left. The top of the page becomes the left side. |

Best Practices
- Check the page orientation before uploading so you know which angle you need.
- Select only the misaligned pages if a few are wrong — it saves you from re-checking pages that are already correct.
- If you're unsure about the angle, try 90° Clockwise first, as it's the most common fix for scanner mistakes.
- Download and open the result to confirm the orientation before deleting your original file.
Troubleshooting
Problem: I rotated the wrong direction
Solution: Simply upload the file again and choose a different angle — there's no limit on how many times you can process a file.
Problem: Only some pages need rotating, not the whole file
Solution: Select only those pages (or use the arrows on each page) and rotate them. The rest of the document is left exactly as it was.
Problem: My upload won't complete
Solution: Confirm the file is under 50 MB and is a valid PDF. Large scanned files can sometimes exceed the limit — try compressing the PDF first with our Compress PDF tool.
Rotate PDF FAQ
Is rotating PDFs really free?
Yes. Rotate PDF is completely free, with no sign-up, watermark, or hidden limits beyond the file size shown above.
Can I rotate only one page?
Yes. Select individual pages and rotate them without changing the rest of the PDF.
How do I rotate just one page and not the whole PDF?
Click that single page thumbnail so it is the only one selected, leave Apply to all pages unticked, then press a rotate button. Only the selected page turns.
Why can’t I save a rotated page in Adobe Reader?
Adobe Reader’s View menu rotates the page on screen only, and the file opens sideways again next time. Saving the rotation permanently needs Acrobat Pro or an online tool like this one, which writes the new orientation into the PDF you download.
Can I rotate all pages?
Yes. Select All Pages and choose the rotation direction.
Will my PDF quality change?
Rotation does not intentionally reduce the original PDF quality. Pages are turned, not re-encoded.
What's the difference between the rotation buttons?
Rotate Right and Rotate Left turn a page a quarter turn in opposite directions; Rotate 180° flips a page upside down.
Will my file be kept after rotating?
No. Both your uploaded file and the rotated result are automatically deleted from our servers a short time after processing.
Does this work on mobile?
Yes, Rotate PDF works in any modern mobile or desktop browser — no app required.
Is registration required?
No. You can rotate PDFs without creating an account or providing any personal details.
What is the maximum file size?
You can upload PDF files up to 50 MB. If your scanned file is larger, try our Compress PDF tool first.
